Only dealer online with Audi can code immobilizer. Not sure that VW is different.

Default +1 No can do...

The dealer computer needs to call home to the Vaterland and authorize the key to the car. Have had to go to the dealer since about the 2001's for Audi's generally; my 2000 4.2 was still the older kind where you could DIY it with a certain unlock/key sequence and no VAG COM either.

You also need to bring your car registration and matching ID for ordering one, or work mail order and scan the same to them.

thanks. and i think most vw's are fine with vcds, ive done my 2004 and 2003 polos,. added a comfort ecu because it only had central locking not remote locking.

PITA mp4, i rang them about a month ago, quoted £150 just for a key and then codeing £50 so £200 all in. i can get a brand new key laser cut and chip for £40 lol.

can i ask a question, if i were to get a key with a brand new blank imobiliser and cut the key, would they accept that to reprogram it? because i do not want to pay £150 just for a key.

You may try to say that it is your old (never used) key that lost its marbles and should be reprogrammed. They need to reprogram all keys anyways.

Default Yes, should be able to do something like that

If you were in the US, I would say order from someplace like AudiUSAParts. I did that w/ my 2000 A6 4.2. A dealer just needs the VIN (and your scanned/faxed registration and ID) to cut the key. Then I got the discount. Since that car didn't have coding, I also had simple valet type keys cut at a local locksmith from blanks I ordered on ebay.

Then with the security type remotes you just take the key to the dealer service for the programming. I did this on my Mini, which similarly has programmed keys. Just told them I had ordered it via the parts counter; they were happy to collect the service revenue. In that case, I had them do an ECU reflash (to reduce infamous Mini torque steer) at the same time, and they just charged me the same flat rate.
