Default Key fob programming

Ever since I got our '03 allroad, my key fob has been junk. I changed the battery once and it lasted a few weeks and quit again. I bought a new key for my wife when we got the car (the dealership programmed it), and it works fine. So I bought an uncut key off eBay that had the same codes as my wife's key fob (4D0 837 231M). I have seen several discussions about how to program the remote, but none of the things I have tried have worked. Anybody got a definitive answer for the '03 allroad? I do not want to go to the dealer for it.

Default You more than likely......

...have a code in the cental convience (or whatever the hell they call it now) module. You probably have a code in there that either key 1 or key 2 is past the adaptation limit. W/o clearing that code you will fight it to get more than one key programmed at the same time.

Once you clear the code it should program just as written in the tech pages (under A4).

I suspect the dealer will need to program it. Need a special code for the immobilizer...
