i have had several threads running over the last year on this issue.
i am pleased somewhat to report that i did finally successfully finish this install.
my final hurdle was getting the right clockspring, and then i had airbag error due to not firmly fitting a harnesse and neglecting to lock in little clips on clockspring. overall its not very hard, all plug and play and pulling apart some trim pieces along with the steering parts. dont fear the airbag as long as you unclip the battery prior to start.
it was expensive and the wheel heat is rather tepid compared to bmw et al
but it does work, and i am happy with my little accomplishment and i love the feel of this wheel vs what was in the car.

summary of what one would need for a swap:
mfsw heated wheel w/paddles
airbag of proper matching shape
j527 ecn control module pn ending in "B"
clockspring pn ending in "B"
in addition to some torx head tools
(i can get details if one needs them).
as you could imagine the parts bill can run up.
no one ever said german luxury cars were a poor mans game lol/
i am hoping to recoup a bit of it by selling the oem parts as a package.

Congrats! One of the best mods on my 01 S8.....miss it in my 07 S8.....but won't even think about doing it....
