Excellent; so you've proved what you saw yourself with your previous pictures. The A8 CH's with US MMI code identify themselves as 6346 [without] and 6348 [with] video connector.

So that raises the interesting question of whether the CH you got from A8Parts was already a 6348 or you made it one by the 4610 update. Do you have a label pic?

And if you'd gone slightly lower in your screen print we could have seen what other device codes are supported in US 4610. We can just see the A6 codes of 6361 and 6303.

Julian

Hello Julian,
Sorry, no, for some reason out of the thousands of times I have taken pictures while working, I did not take a picture of the label

Also, I know that I updated it to Euro 5570, then IIRC I flashed it with 3360, then updated 3360 to 4610, but I can not be sure at this moment, what does stick in my head is reading back then all the warnings of doing 3360 before jumping to 4140 or 4610 from anything below 3360 such as 2750 or lower.

I have attached the code for both 3360 and 4610 showing the larger field of lines of code, even 3360 show 6348, You know I will now have to pull my MMI CH to see which number unit came from the UK, just not today.....

Agreed. In the case of the D3, the newer module needs to come from a D3, even if the part number is the same, which is to say the module software is model specific - the SW version on the label of the module needs to be 4E0 for the D3.

In my case I recorded all the details of all the components when I first got the car and as I have made any component changes/adds etc. I've added BT, AMI and SDS. I had to have CP removed on the SDS module, years ago, but that went smoothly. The CAN gateway (4L0 - from an A6) was changed a couple of weeks ago, did not have CP, and is working fine. Now at this point...

Original CH
Interfacebox
SW Number 4E0 910 732S
SW Index 4610
SW Date 30.01.08
HW Number 4E0 035 729
HW Index H43

Newer CH (from '07 A8) (after 4610 update)
Interfacebox
SW Number 4E0 910 732T
SW Index 4610
SW Date 30.01.08
HW Number 4E0 035 729A
HW Index H43

The only thing different is "T" versus "S" as the Software Number suffix...the only VCDS fault code now is the CP error.

Don't have an eeprom programmer but I made a record of all CH settings, all Adaptation channels, and I coded the new module accordingly and verified that all settings match the original unit. I plan to take it in to get CP removed - which should go smoothly - by the end of the week....I'll report back on results.

For information; can we please see the current VCDS log for the new CH, showing the specific message you get when you've got the 'limited function' version of the Component Protection DTC?

Thanks - Julian

Thank you - so it seems it's only 'real' CP if you have no ancilliary message.

Yep, I have no sound. Optical test shows OK for everything, but there is no sound (except the BT phone does work).

So the ending to the story....took the car to my indy today, and 20 minutes/$100 later, no more CH error and my music is back.

Default Nice, there's no get around the CP removal by dealer?

If I have to do it, I'll try the EEprom programming.
