Door Mystery
Hi All,
I've started a couple of threads lately that apparently should have been only one (sorry!).....but I thought this might deserve its own thread. (I may be wrong again!)
As stated I've had multiple problems with my car as of late...one of which is the drivers soft close feature hasn't been working for months. I shut it harder and I'm good....no need to spend the money. Occasionally I hear it attempt to work but it never does so I ignore it. From researching it here it sounds like a major project.
So....while messing around with the VAGCOM trying to fix my many other problems (I had my drivers door almost closed) I accidentally hit the "activate transport mode" button. I let it cycle....then I hit the "de-activate transport mode". At the end of its cycle it sucked my door closed. Making sure I wasn't wrong I repeated the same exact scenario and it sucked it closed again.
So, does this mean the door issue is less of a task to fix than what I've read? Could this be a de facto way for others to test the problem without dismantling the door?

If this helps...
As I understand it, there is the close assist mechanism on the one hand, and some kind of sensor on the other. When one of mine went out still under warranty, the repair ended up just being the sensor. I got the sense that is less involved. Your transport mode test experience suggests the mechanism is working, and thus probably likewise the issue is with the relevant sensor

[QUOTE It also may be snapped actuator cable. QUOTE]
but if the cable was snapped then his test would have not closed the door, correct ?
so this may be a way to know what's wrong before taking it all apart, meaning if test pulls door closed, then it's most likely a micro switch.
