That's exactly what this guys who have problem with the update have done. Problem is whom to trust. And you are just adding to that problem with posts like this.
+1, the updates and disks are official. If you plan on for example, adding an Audi Music Interface, you need to update your software.

It is way cheaper to buy Ross-Tech VCDS ($350). You will need it as long as you have any VW group car.
Mishar, would you kindly share your wisdom diagnose what went wrong here?

I already have gotten myself VCDS and ran it on the vehicle over the weekend.

Following is just one of many defaults the VAG-Com has detected.

D3 A8 is just too complicated compared to my old Skyline, and makes me thinking of going back to 2,000cc Hyundai Sonata and getting rid of the my beloved A8..

So this is interesting. I read through the TSB that Mishar posted regarding the upgrade process. There is a key point in there that the guy who wrote my instructions left out. That is that you should have the v5 Nav disk installed before running the second disk. It explicitly mentions model year 2005 in there which is a commonality among these posts. I had the v4 disk in mine when I upgraded (latest is on order but no help now). I'm wondering if that caused the brick.

Also, I just got my VCDS copy tonight and ran the first diagnostic. Nothing similar to what cooljustin is seeing. Here are the fault codes:

I'm really curious about those first two since my car has far fewer miles on it than what that reports and I have the service records that show there was no OD rollback. In any case, I'm not really seeing anything here that would point me to a singular failed module. The one thing that does stand out is the distance between the timestamps of the error reports. Does anyone more familiar with these reports see anything interesting?

Default +2; I don't get using non-Audi disks. Asking for BIG problems

The Audi disks are cheap--on the order of $20. From the dealer! Why use non-official disks, which on a very good day, MIGHT be a copy of some Audi disk, which MIGHT be from the right geographic region, which MIGHT be the upgrade they say it is, etc. Won't even bother with the copyright infringement lashing; here it's just economic common sense.

Brick the MMI controller and its an uncool two grand. Those are cold hard US dollars. Thats about 100 Audi legit disks. With shipping for the bootleg junk, might even be fewer of the counterfeit disks, and even fewer with a few "wrong" or non-functioning shipments back and forth. Updating Audi software is not just another slam bang iOS tweak or app or Windows update, and you cant just go to Time Capsule or the phone back up and hit "restore." Instead, you go to the service desk and explain shepishly the stupid thing you can't fix now, and then just hand your money over. Or you explain to all the guests in your car (and your spouse/GF...) why you pasted a 7" diagonal whiteboard or some post it notes where the display used to be, how come you think Garmin is really "better" so you went back to it, and you hand everyone a set of (hacked?) two generation old iPods and iPhones and some headphones ("hey, they still work great and I even used A8 wallpaper!"). At least then everyone gets their own tunes! Yep, all for the negative dollars not even saved for the counterfeit disk. Where do I sign up? Oh yeah, eBay Eastern Europe. Got it.

It seems you replaced your amplifier and Component Protection kicked in. You have to go to a dealer in order to remove it.

Is it B&O?

I don't think so. As far as I remember few guys did just the same without problem.

Perform MOST Ring scan. It will point to the single module if that is the case.

Millage discrepancy is interesting. It seems like your Gateway Module was replaced with used one and still has in its memory codes from the donor vehicle. Gateway has Component Protection but it doesn't show any symptoms like other modules(CD Changer would work for a few seconds and than pause for the next few, MMI Module would shut off music but phone would work, Speech Module would just cancel every command and so on). It might be that update triggered this behavior.

I suggest that you record those faulty codes and delete them. Than you will have only the current ones. Post them here with the MOST ring scan.

No, mine is a stock BOSE system. This CP thing happened after I unsuccessfully installed the first CD (Everything got installed except the last bit, I think it was something to do with MOST, but not really sure.

Thank you Misahr, I will take my ride to the local dealer later on.

The first cd of the update is a clean up disk for the bluetooth module. There is no real update on the first cd. Mine did the exact same thing and did not complete the installation of disk 1. I just updated the MMI to 4610 with dc 2 with no issues.

Thanks TSHong,

I guess it applies the same for the Non-US update CD kits too?! I will try to run the second cd then. The thing is now I am waiting for another CD Player that I bought from Germany since my original CD Player unit sometimes shows "meta data errors" on a screen. I suspect there is a laser optical lens problem with the unit due to its age.

I don't understand why Audi utilizes a Panasonic unit as an OEM, Pioneer or Mcintosh makes a far better sound and less prone to wear & tears. Just my two cents.
