Default Hard Drive

Hello,
Is somebody using a portable hard drive to store and listen to ripped Cd's, if yes, what type and brand. I was trying last night my portable 500gb Toshiba but the car doesn't recognize it. I would also like to rip my Cd's using a lossles format including text, any reccomendations, please (the Apple lossles format doesn't work )
Thank you.

There is no lossless format listed, but try AIFF, as that is what CDs have on them.

Hard drive is not made for ever shaking environment. Solid state one would work. MP3's on 6 CD's can store about 1000 songs. Should be enough for one tip.

What kind of car do you have? The A8 doesn't shake!
Not enough to worry a 2.5" drive.

What kind of roads are you driving? Obviously not North American.

Besides of that, solid states are here to stay. The spinning ones not.

Will our 6cd changer read MP3 format?

Newer ones will. I believe 2007 on. They where $35 at one point. Unfortunately plus Component Protection removal, one hour at the dealer.

I'm just using my old 16GB iPhone 3G, via AMI, as a media source in mine, and this does play nice with Apple Lossless format.

The flash memory of the iPhone is great- no lag, no temp/ vibration issues, etc.

Obviously, it isn't anywhere close to holding my entire library, but I also enjoy swapping my music out periodically, so this works for me.

I had tried a 120GB hard drive based iPod in a former car via a DICE interface, and it did not work well at all. WAY too much lag.

It needs to be FAT32 format not NTFS or other format.

I have tried using SSD and it does not seem to offer any real benefit over a high speed SSD card or a good quick hard disk.

At the moment I am using a Cat10 16gb SSD card in a cheap USB adaptor.
