"In order to replace it they have to remove rear seat, a bunch of pillar covers and all trunk liners. That could be easily 6-8 hours, so it is close to $1500."
You're spot on. I got two quotes ranging from $1300-1600 with labor being the only variable. Appearantly one dealer needs less than 3 hours while the other needs 5. However, I have less faith in the lower estimate as I've dealt with them before. Please keep us posted about the parts you're making.

That much for a simple rear blind? If mine broke I'd leave it broke; tint your windows and be done with the whole mess. It is a nice feature, but definitely not something that is worth anywhere north of $400 to replace. IMO on all this but I don't see the big advantage of it. While given the upgraded parts the member is making, or making it a DIY job, sure I'd try it.

Rear Shade Clips
I've had the back of my car apart to change the parktronic rear buzzer. It sits right next to the rear shade. The part was less than 20 bucks but I spent a good 4 or 5 hours tearing the whole rear out of the car, it is a real PAIN in the ****!

Help removing end cap
Hello,
I scrapped my 2001 A8L due to shot transmission but before I did I removed the two tabs that slide horizontally in the sun shade track thinking they would be the same as my 07 - and they appear to be. To remove the slides, I removed the end cap on the top of the sun shade held in place by a small philips screw. I can't see how the end cap is held in place on my 07 and it is tight space to work in. If I could get that end cap out, I think I could use the slides from my 01 to replace my broken tab. Can anyone help on on end cap removal on the 07 sun shade? Thanks guys.

Thanks!
Mishar - Thanks. I knew it had to be there but I'll be damned if I can see it. It would be easier if I could get the headrest out - I will have to keep trying. I need to get the manual. I have it for may 01 A8 but it doesn't help:-) Thanks again - hope to get at it this afternoon.

Mishar,
I had success - not without some struggles. I was able to swap out the broken tab from one I took off my 2001 A8L before sending it to the great scrap yard in the sky. It was not that hard, just very difficult place to work in. Had to use mirrors to see the screw that held end cap on and very little space to work in. If you have access to a scrap yard, the tabs are the same in the D2 series. Although - I hope Mishar comes up with a solid, permanent replacement as I have a fear that the tab might break again.
Thanks for posting the diagram of the end cap - it was very helpful as I was kind of working by feel.
So far, after 3 weeks of ownership of this car, I am loving it.

I am glad you managed it. I was afraid you are going to brake the other one in the process. They are so fragile. Specially as they are getting older.
