Nav question

Getting the "Please check the navigation CD" error when trying to access. Any suggestions on DIY fixes?

I had the same message on my 2005. I removes the disk, cleaned it and after the car was "shut down" overnight, it started to work OK. No problems since, but I am not sure whether my actions actually solved the underlying problem.
