So my 2007 a8l was flashing the engine light when under heavy load.
I had already changed spark plugs and coil packs so I brought to dealer to diagnose the issue. They came back with faulty fuel injector number 6. They order the part and changed the o rings on the other injectors. Picked up car on Friday and when I drove home it was fine. Took car on weekend trip and flashing check engine light on again. Now I am being told that it's fuel injector number 7. They recommend to change the other 3 injectors on that side. I asked why wasn't I offered this first time around? Now they want another 1400. Am I screwed or should I complain to management?

Thanks,

I would get a better diagnosis before even proceeding further. Sounds more like a variant of they are throwing parts at it. If a 2007, then FSI (direct injection) motor. How do they know in that case it is not the high pressure injection pump on that side for example? Multiple injectors failing seems far fetched. Even one is rare.

I would agree. Only thing the other audi dealer from me is 70 miles away. And driving with a stuttering engine doesn't seem like a good idea. Let see with they tell me when I stop by later.

Get VCDS. Living that far from a dealer you really do need to be able to read codes to *know* if you can drive for 70 miles or not.

Tell the dealer it is at now that you want a printout of the scan showing all fault codes, then post it here.

Default Not many Master mechanics understand the diagnostic report fully...

I would find out "how do you detect a bad fuel injector since it's sealed in a system?". OK, the computer print out tells me, he said. "How does the computer detect a bad fuel injector? Where does the test occur and pass/fail criteria based on? physically or electronically?"
I would read up on my own since we have Google, our friend, but it's Audi, it's different... No it's not, all tests should be the same for all cars, unless Audi gods wrote their own tests that "never follow" the conventional wisdom.

Cheers,

Louis
