I saw the thread on the rear brake diy thread, need some clarification though. Do i need vag com to back out the piston? or can i just back out the piston with a clamp??

With the pads out you can turn the caliper piston clockwise (I think) and it will retract in. Did mine that way without vag com.

Default Link to when I did it last year

I used VAG diagnostics to back off the parking brake on the rears. Others here have just pressed the pistons back. Someone once had parking brake problems that *may* have been caused by this. I don't know though. I figure you need the software & interface to reset the service indicator and to read faults so That's why I did the rear brakes per the Bentley manual procedure.

Good luck to you.<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a8d3/msgs/43551.phtml">Rear brake pad procedure</a></li></ul>

Default I actually did mine sunday

You will need a vag to release the parking brake. Applying pressure to the piston without doing so can damage the caliper. Local dealer have replaced a few sets.

The pistons on my 04 do not spin in, just apply steady pressure with c-clamp, i bought the piston kit from ecstuning.com, much easier.

My piston turned in easily and I had no problem putting in new pads.
