Default Rip air compressor

So I got home tonight from work, and I **** my car off and noticed a buzzing noise. Turned out to be my air compressor not shutting off. I try to start my car, but it won’t start and is just rattling like crazy. I unplug it from the power and my car will turn on now, but it smells like something electrical is burning really strong in the cabin. Can I still drive with this unplugged? Could it just be the relay?

relay is most likely stuck closed. replace it and hope for the best with the compressor.

The relay usually welds itself shut. This overheats and takes out the compressor....

Fortunately I disconnected power from the compressor after about 3 minutes of trying to figure out what the hell was going on, so hopefully it’s all fine. Can I pick up a 373 relay at a parts store or will that be something I would have to order?

You should be good with a new relay. I had the same problem a few years ago. I had to remove the battery to get the pump to stop. Installing a new relay can fix your problem but you might wanna think about getting a new compressor (they are not that expensive from german ebay). Relay is quite easy to change too.

Is it safe to drive still with the compressor unplugged?

There is an updated relay that will keep it from happening again. Look around for the part number. I dont have it readily available. Id get one from the dealer to be sure of the quality.

look at this thread

https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a8-...2800048/page5/

It will have all the information you will need.

The relay is under the dashboard to the left of the steering wheel.

Called the closest Audi dealership to see how much a relay is....$44!! And they said they would have to order them. Guess I’ll be buying them online today
