Squeaky brakes
04 A8L, bought it with 51K miles and at the time, new brakes and rotors. Now at 87K miles and the brakes have begun to squeak. Time for new pads? Or is there an indicator light. Had it in the VW dealer recently. Their checklist showed 8 & 9mm for brake pads. Is that good?

It supposes to be the light indicating to replace the pads (only front). But 8-9 mm is "OK", but soon you should replace it.

Audi brakes all have a tendency to squeak some, per Audi dealer. My brakes were replaced at 39K on '04 A8L CPO and I know have 97K on them. Recently had 95K service and dealer said brakes were still good. I discussed some squeaks with them and they said to burn the glaze off the rotors by stopping real hard at highway speed. Obviously with no other cars around! Seemed to work so far.
