Default Trunk functionality

Is it normal that while the car is running you cannot open the trunk from the trunk handle or the key fob? I started the car this morning and walked around to open the trunk and the trunk handle was non responsive, only the trunk release on the driver’s door would open it.

maybe the trunk is locked, did you unlock the door using the unlock switch first??

the inside button is override because you're already in the car ofcourse....

also if the trunk is locked valet style only the keyfob can open it....

I did unlock the car with the fob, then started it, got out of the car and walked to the back to open the trunk. I had the fob in my pocket while trying to open the trunk. When I realized the trunk wouldn't open from the trunk handle I tried using the open trunk button on the fob which also didn't open the trunk. After trying both of those I walked back up to the open drivers door and pushed the trunk button on the door which did work.

I shut the car off and closed the door, the fob was in my pocket, then I walked back to the trunk and the trunk handle opens the trunk as it should. Its almost like a security setting where the trunk can only be opened by the drivers door when the car is running. I wonder if it can be set by VCDS? My Q7 rear hatch can be opened while the car is running via the rear hatch handle.

It's normal behaviour, if the car is running you can only open from the drivers door pocket.

I would think that's to prevent thieves stealing stuff.

On my 2006 I can open the trunk while the engine is running. I just did it just to make sure.

That is very interesting, I don't remember seeing any specific trunk lock functionality in the MMI settings. I bet there is some setting buried in the VCDS that will change it. I just found this problem this morning before coming to work so I haven't had a chance to dig any deeper yet.

If you look in your manual there are two settings from the trunk key lock position.
Just forget exactly what they do .
