"L" model v NWB is strictly a matter of taste. The American market made it clear they prefer the "L" so Audi discontinued the NWB in the USA in 2016. I searched high and low and finally found a NWB because, as a previous "L" owner, I did not need nor want the extra room in the back seat anymore. And our tiny garage was thrilled to have car 5" shorter.

If that car's history is sound, I'd go for it.

That’s correct. There are only two body shops in all of IL authorized by Audi to work on the A8. One is just north of Chicago in Lake Bluff. Repairs can take a very long time because some parts have to be imported from Germany.

2015 was the last year they offered a NWB A8 in North America. Starting with the 2016 model year Audi offered only the LWB here.

Audi specifically forbids Certifying a car after the fact. The car must be offered as a CPO from the start. Even if a dealer agrees to do it, the warranty will likely not be honored by any other dealer.

Besides, the value of a CPO has diminished since Audi cut the extra coverage from 2 years to 1.
