Default 2015 A8 21 edition

Hi,

I was hoping someone may be able to give me an idea of costs while my car is in the garage. I skidded on ice and smashed a curb sideways. Iv bent the nearside alloy and looks like I'm going to need a new subframe and suspension arm at the least on top of the cost of 2 new alloys and some paintwork. I'm jut looking for ballpark figures, more than 5k, more than 10k? Even more than that? Thanks in advance!

I've seen cars totaled that way, it could get hugely expensive. If the frame is damaged, it might not be repairable. No one is going to be able to give you a good number without knowing exactly the damage. If the car isn't totaled and from what you describe I think it might be, 20k is my guess as a minimum repair cost to do it right.

I had Audi assist out and he said the suspension arm has broken off of the subframe. I'm hoping minimal damage to the subframe. I was wondering if anyone had experience a similar accident before. Hopefully damage is minimal to the structure and it's just a big job in labour rather than parts. Gotta be optimistic on a car like this!

Last I saw someone with subframe damage, it was over 40k to fix. The only reason it wasn't totaled was because they had underestimated the damage initially and had already invested into repairing it.

No way to know. Presumably you have insurance?

If it isn't there already, get it to an Audi aluminum certified shop. If damage is severe, may still need to get shipped remote, but these days the certified shops can do a lot of the repairs locally, including even things with the frame jigs and such. Certified means trained, separate tool sets for aluminum work, separate work areas, now separate paint related equipment, etc. If on insurance, other than quality of work you would care about, not your bill to manage. Getting more common for shops to invest in it with more aluminum body cars (and F150) out there.

Sounds like from your description, indeed you will want frame alignment checked. If/assuming repairable, also make sure the shop (or dealer if they outsource) is set up to do the alignment--both the usual mechanical, but now also for the various electronic helpers (cameras, adaptive cruise, blind spot, lane assist, etc.). Audi USA website has an 800 number for it, again if the roadside Audi Assist type folks didn't already point you that way. The shop I use (certified) sends it to nearby dealer if it needs any alignment or special computer related work/diagnostics.
