A8 4.0 Engine Vibration MUST READ!!!
#181
Fixed for 20 dollars
wrapped flex pipes with flashing and hose clamps. Vibration is now gone. It’s a temporary fix but the vibration comes from the extended length down pipes with inadequate support. Worked on lots of tractors and motors but this was an easy redneck fix. I drive an Audi S8 2013.

I got my car back from the Audi dealer today. It runs butter smooth - all prior vibrations are gone!
I took the TSB #27 15 25 2036392/4 March 20, 2015 in with me for the appointment and asked them to call Audi USA. They got Audi USA to cover 75% of the cost. I was out the door with new downpipes, clamps, and gaskets for $326. I took a risk with the out of warranty and non-CPO purchase, but so far I'm not complaining...
If you're going to take it in I recommend having the TSB printed and in-hand.

To JohnnyRocker 3.....there ARE downpipes from APR for the A8L. These downpipes fit any Audi with a 4.0, S6, S7, RS7, A8, S8 etc. On the A8L you just have to buy a separate part(s) which is just a pair of straight pipes which extends the end of downpipe to compensate for added L length. But what APR doesnt have is a Stage 2 software for the A8, the stage two software upgrade is S8 only.

Yeah the downpipes will fit any 4.0T with extensions for the LWB. The issue is no stage 2 map. However I did speak with a rep at APR who said they have a Stage 1 tune and a stage 1 tune with test pipe so you won’t throw codes. I wish they’d just make a stage 2 map for the A8. There can’t be that much difference between the platform and you’ve already written a test pipe file so half the work is already done.

Meant to ask for few months now... Any owners with 3.0 engine experience the same issue? I have only 36k miles on 2014 A8 and it does exactly the same thing but around 1300 and 2500RPM.
Looks like TSB only for 4.0 motor??
Thanks

I couldn't upload the pdf I used but here's a link to 27 17 29 2036392/6. It is for the 4.0.

I haven’t seen any posts on the 3.0T and engine vibration. I also haven’t experienced it. Did you search the 3.0T engine thread?

I would imagine its not an engine problem as so as location of exhaust mounts, right? Wonder if it's very similar exhaust. Car had complete service before I got it and this is the only nuance so I didn't take it anywhere.

FYI, saw this video on adding a brace to stop the vibration.

I think a cleaner bracket could be made but it seems like an easy fix. I recall other cars having a hanger before the flex joints so don't know why Audi went without support. It wouldn't take much, just something to steady the pipe.
