Does piano center console scratches easy?
I'm just wondering. I'm in a market for an A8. I noticed that a A8 have a piano finish by the gear level. I was wondering if that scratches easy? Is that even a problem? Why I ask because I'm coming from a Porsche and that is a big issue. I developed a clear protector for that on a Porsche. I was wondering if there would even be a need for that on A8.

I suppose it could be an issue if you're in the habit of dragging stuff across the console. An easy solution would be a coat or two of clear plastidip. Protects the finish, doesn't look horrid, and easy to peel off if you don't like it or find out that you're more careful with the finish than you thought you'd be.

In a porsche, any plack piano finish console scratches because guys have tendency to put their phones there. And it scratches easy. I have a wood finish so no problem. I was wondering if A8 consoles scratches easy and if people really do scratch it. Maybe its a non issue. Just wondering

So far not for me, but only about 9 months in. I have seen the issue on my prior Mini w/ piano black pieces around dash components, but obviously a way different class of car and likely materials selection. I try to be gentle with it. But spousal unit is constantly swinging purses and bags, and stuffing phones and charger and such all around console from passenger side--a lot. Just detailed interior of S8 last weekend, and only thing I really found was driver's seat and steering wheel that needed some leather cleaner. Plus the the usual conditioner all around once in a while
From having had stuff sort of like this on the B pillar of Audi's back to my 2000, I found you can also get out swirl type marks if those happen with a polish type liquid you use starting a three step wax job.

I had a couple surface scratches on mine, courtesy of the previous owner, but it was never enough for me to pursue finding a fix. I know I never put any scratches in it, so it's not ultra delicate, but I bet it doesn't take much.

yep, it scratches a bit. I even have a mark on the console door that covers the cupholders. Happened because when the cover is oven, it hits the side of the console, leaving a mark after a period of time.

3 1/2 years and no scratches on any of the piano black areas. Wish I could say the same for the aluminum areas of the shift lever and only thing I can conclude is rings and especially my wife's diamond wedding ring as it has a tendency to turn inward on her finger. Not a large or truly noticeable scratch but one that once you see it, it always "stands out"! Grrrrr! Truly a nit!
