How well can a new A8 drive itself?

Superswiss is right on the money with his SAE descriptions/classifications. You would hope/expect that folks would RTFMs, at least with regard to these technical safety systems, to fully understand their intended use and limitations BEFORE using them. Don't mean to offend or get on a soap box, but come on folks, it's important stuff.

I wasn't aware they could do that at all? And certainly wouldn't rely on even if it said you could. I do have the driver assist and thought the vibrating steering wheel was the extent of the road line watching. I rarely use it unless on a long trip incase a drift a little without signaling. I must say I do like and enjoy using the ACC feature. Eliminates the wife's former job

In my experience it's only intended for straight roads with well defined lane markers. As soon as the road curves - adios. I keep the system turned off except on a long highway ride at night as a preventative measure against dozing. That's all it's good for IMHO.

bumping this up, but does anyone have a VCDS walk-through on how to enable this?
My vehicle has a ACC and lane assist and saw the following: https://forums.ross-tech.com/showthr...ing-not-accept

definitely not a fan of what seems to be underneath a lot of these longer run: affirmatively not paying attention, texting, surfing one's brains out, and who knows what else--running real risks to others around them and way beyond just themselves. Unfortunately happening in spades already--and with death rates climbing for the first time in many years to show for it--but systems that effectively coddle it yet more are not a good result to me.

It took me a few months before I began to trust the ACC in my 2011 A8L, but I really do appreciate it in highway driving, now! Not sure how long it’d take me to ‘leave the driving’ to the car, though.
From what I’ve read over the past couple of years, it sounds like the “Supercruise” system in the Cadillac CT6 is about the best there is. Now, if only Cadillac could build a car on par with an A8 or S-Class, I might switch back. Maybe...
