Default Losing oil

My 2015 A8 has 82k miles. I’d always have to put a quart in between 10k service. Then after 75k I had to do it 3 times in 6k miles. Dealer did a consumption test and I lost 1 qt in 830 miles. No leaks. No smoke. No anything. They suggested as a POSSIBLE solution to replace the PCV oil separator but that was just a shot at it. I do have a warranty until 100k or 6/2025 so I’m fine to wait and see if it gets worse. I only drive about 10k per year.

Thoughts or advice?

At the risk of being struck by lightning, have you tried Lucas Engine Oil Stop Leak or similar products? They often work on slower leaks. If that doesn't help, it might point to burn off instead. Glad to hear you still have a warranty!

.
Don't use any additives for that. Engage your dealer like a dog with a bone - and don't let them off short of a proper repair. ASAP.

Oh no! The 3.0 TFSI V6 CREC problematic engine!!! I thought the A8 came to North America with exclusively the 4.0 TFSI V8...

Check this out: Beware of oil consumption

Likely verdict: Pistons and rings need replacement or total engine needs to be replaced. Don't waste time and money replacing the PCV valve. It won't fix oil consumption at 82K miles.

As far as I know, extended warranty will not cover the engine rebuild or replacement and the dealership will not let you know this. Oil consumption will keep increasing and catastrophic failure can occur anytime. Cylinder 5 and 6 blew in mine. Trade it in ASAP when you still can.

Check to make sure your PCV block is not pugged/failing to separate, if that works you can attempt a chemical cleaning of the rings. I have have great success with freeing rings across many brands....in particular Toyota/BMW/Hyundai and it resolves oil consumption for 90% of them.

Btw your thread is fairly alarmist lol! These can/do have oil issues but I think your engine grenaded for other reason entirely.....in any case it makes me happy to know my engines don't have this issue at all lol! That would suck having to add oil! (from personal experience with my LS460, I have been in the position of having to add a full quart every 400ish miles)

Why would you assume this? I have the Audi Pure Protection Platinum warranty. From the dealer.

Thanks for sharing this. It is clear that you will be covered with the plan you have chosen. A few members reported their extended warranty did not cover the cost of engine replacement or rebuild and they were asked to pay the full or part of the cost out of pocket which some couldn't afford. We are speaking of $15,000 - $20,000. They must have chosen another plan.

I suggest you do not wait too long and demand an oil consumption test be performed. I believe they will accept to fix your engine if they find that the consumption is over 1 quart per 1,000 miles. Good luck!

I just did that last month. Was down 1 quart in 830 miles. I’m at about 600 the next time so we shall soon see.
