I just chatted with Audi online support, if you setup Audi Connect you should be able to have a data connection for updated google maps. They quoted me $199 for the year I believe. This would not update the map on the HD.

Kind of you to speak with audi!

I find it bizarre that you cannot update the hard drive map...

Another way for Audi to make money. A nice cell phone holder and Waze or Maps does a better job anyway. Yes, not as integrated but much more effective and updated for traffic.

Absolutely agree. At least the rest of the car is flawless!

There's too many options on this factory system for it to even be appealing to me. I tried using it twice and it took me a solid 5-6 minutes to input an address versus just telling Siri to get me where I need to be in sub 10 seconds.

With the Audi Connect, do you have to pay for that subscription on top of a data subscription to lease accurate maps google hosts for free?? Or am I missing something? You'd figure a car that flirts with a 6 figure price tag would come with complimentary maps update.

With Audi Connect, there is no need for updates as you have access to Google Maps which is always updated and current. Don't want to sound "snippy" or "snobbish" but, if you can afford to buy and drive a luxury car, cost of operating shouldn't be an issue. And for me, current Google Maps was one of the reasons I ordered this vehicle. Plus, if you check out the Audi tutorials online, there is a plethora of information on setting up voice recognition so even "Okie" accents like mine can be understood and entering destinations is simply pushing a button and following instructions. Couldn't be simpler or faster and far more reliable than Siri which I find just irritating. My experience has been between the tutorials, the original manuals and this blog, I can successfully operate the majority of features on my A8L. Of course, a periodic refresher doesn't hurt.

You're certainly right. The connect cost isn't the source of my frustration. Its that it doesn't update the car's maps during the connection, but rather continues to "stream" it.

Cost of operating isn't the issue and wasn't taken as snobby but still not a fan of spending uneccesarily, just cause I have it doesn't mean I wanna spend it hahah

So Audi connect streams the maps from the data connection instead of updating the unit. Makes sense, just wasn't clear.
