Default New A8L 4.0T CPO Search

-Just starting a patient search for a CPO A8L 4.0T (2013-15) in Chicago suburbs.
-Would like one that is black/black (seems to be most) with LED headlights, 20 inch wheels, cold weather, massage seats etc and driver assistance.
-Have looked at Edmunds, CarGuru, etc. and set up search screens. Which is the best site for determining the actual price at which cars have sold (or are they only using the listing price info)?
-I see some of the Audi dealer websites show new 2017's "in transit". When are the new ones set to arrive at dealers and when will that cause the remaining new 2016 prices to fall as well as the prices of used cars?
-I see that some Audi dealers are becoming more reluctant to CPO their 2013-14s and will only certify very low mileage 2015s and 2016s. Is this just another way of saying that they have given too much on these trade-ins to justify the investment in brakes, tires, etc to get them up to snuff to certify? Seems like different audi dealers are taking a different approach with regards to willingness to certify.
-Many/most of the newer (2015-16) CPOs are low mileage (5000-10,000) dealer loaners. Is there anything inherently wrong with buying a loaner if it's CPO and seems to check out? Doesn't seem like an A8L owner getting his car serviced would be that hard on a service car (unless it's a 3.0 owner wanting to check out the 4.0T engine while they have a chance). Thoughts on this?
-I've read through the last year of these forums so have tried to do some of the pre-work.
-Thanks for responses/advice.

The dealer I bought through stated the rarely CPO the V8s as they often take a lot to get square. Thus, it forces the price up by another 3 to 5k, making them harder to sell. If you buy non cpo, it probably will take about 2k to square the car. Buy the Audi warranty and it will be similar coverage.

Or, buy a low mileage one if in the budget. That gets the six year/100K CPO window, which from my D3 experience paid off well as far as repair savings. If the miles are 10K, they shouldn't need to do any brakes and probably not tires. By 20-30K, probably doesn't pass the 50% front pad thickness test, rotors may be getting worn, and it will need tires. The front rotors on any 4.0T application (and on 3.0T's, though different part # and size) are fairly pricy compared to the Audi norm. if you compare the price delta against a set of tires and some brake work, you can see how the delta arises. But then, if you buy one used without the same components updated, you still effectively have to pay for it as a soon to arise maintenance cost.

It depends on your budget but I would go for a 2015, since, as MP mentioned, you will be covered by a warranty for a longer period of time. The mileage will probably be lower and the 2015 is a facelifted car. You may want to look on Autotrader, where most of the cars are being sold, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a dealer loaner, you may also look at a out of state car, even if you need to fly in and eventually drive the car back or have it shipped to your location. If you need more info please pm me I will let you know more about the recent, excellent experience when buying my 2015 4.0T. Good luck !

I can understand wanting the warranty but you also have to look at the price difference. If you would be happy with the pre-facelift car and you can get an out of warranty example for say $45k (which is very possible) vs. a CPO 2015 at $70k+ that covers a lot of repairs. I love the facelift car but I can't justify spending that much more for essentially the same car. If I can force myself to wait another year or two then the facelift cars will be in that range. Maybe even lower when the D5 debuts.

Hey Guido, I recently bought my 2013 A8 (3.0 though) from McGrath Audi in Morton Grove. When I was there they had about 4 to choose from - 2 V8s and 2 V6s. I went with the V6 honestly because (a) it had the dual sunroofs and (b) I drove both and honestly couldn't justify the V8 - the power on the V6 is pretty damn good, and I was coming from a V8 BMW 750. I got all the options you are looking for.

McGrath doesn't have any used A8Ls currently and doesn't seem to be inclined to CPO them anymore unless they are almost new with few miles (usually loaners). Don't disagree that the 3.0 performs well but still have my heart set on the 4.0T. Enjoy your new car!

I love a V8 honestly. But I just couldn't see the difference in power like I did in the BMW. I've also heard that the V8 A8s get damn good gas mileage now.
