S8 70K Mile Brakes
I have been reading through some posts regarding the brake components on the D4 cars. I am getting some squeal out of the front brakes on my new to me 2014 S8. I have confirmed that I have the 400 mm rotors and am planning on a replacement soon. From the service history I have available to me, the front pads were replaced at approx. 31K miles. The vehicle now has 70K miles so I am assuming it is still on the 2nd set of pads. Based on what I have read it seems like rotors should be replaced every other set of pads so I am guessing it is time. I will measure the rotors and determine if I am in spec but wanted to see if this mileage is consistent with what you folks are seeing.
Also, my plan is to stick with OEM pads, wear sensors, and rotors. Are there any other items you would recommend and/or any reason to depart from OEM to the aftermarket sector?
Thanks

Yes, Audi rule of thumb is rotors every other pad set. Mine are still pretty young, but from one set of measurements I took with a micrometer in past, wear rate was going to take mine under spec at around 65-70K. Now at 34K and still on first pad set.
If brake (wear) warning light does not come on, you don't need new wear sensors unless you break them. Audi OE ones cost literally up to about 10x what aftermarket does in some cases. I may go w/ a known third party name there.
One hidden part of S8 front calipers are some very pricy anti vibration pads that go against each piston. Some pry them off carefully and try to reuse. If DIY, that's practical. If shop will do work, add several hundred more dollars for that set.
There are aftermarket pad choices. OE is solid other than the usual dust. Other than the wear sensors and pads, other parts like rotors and vibration pads are dealer only. Online dealers like audiusaparts can get pricing more reasonable.

MP4 thanks for the prompt reply. Sounds like I am on track for expected wear and will order up the rotors. can't go too wrong with OEM so I may stick with those pads as well. Funny but I don't see the vibration pads on any of the parts diagrams so I will try my best to preserve them. No brake light yet so I will also take my chances on re-using the wear indicators. Worst case is a destroy one in which it sounds like I can source an aftermarket equivalent locally. Thanks

I made a video of this job if its useful:
I used OE discs, OE caliper bolts, OE spring retainers and OE vibration pads.
Part number for vibration pads is 4h0698231, these are Brembo branded parts but I couldn't find any aftermarket versions.
OE pads are made by Brembo, so I went with Brembo aftermarket pads.
As said in the prior reply, wear sensors are not worth buying OE it's literally a wire with a plug.
If the pads etc. have been replaced before you shouldn't assume the vibration pads will still be there, some people throw them and don't replace due to the cost.
