I took delivery in April on my S8, came with 21" Dunlop Sport Maxx summer tires.
There are the best tires I have ever had on a car.
Dunlop Maxx tires are now OE on lot of 2014s MBs and Audis

My 2014 S8 that I got a couple of weeks ago came with Continental ContiSportContact 265/35 R21 tires and I don't notice any excessive road noise. I agree that the choices for 21's are limited and expensive.

I unfortunately, have have P zeroes on three of five vehicles. Will replace all zeroes with Michelin when I get some wear on the present tires and they are an available fit. If not will go with Dunlops. Continentals are quieter but not as quiet as Michelins or Dunlops. Have Dunlops on my truck after a previous truck with P zeroes - Dunlop is the better tire by far. Bottom line PZ's are loud, rough and are coming off all my vehicles ASAP.

Research shows Michelin not available for GL 550 or Audi A8L.

I was thinking of adding dynamat to the wheel wells to see if that would kill some of the noise.
If you go that route let us all know how well it works.

I was thinking of buying some insulation for the fender wells, too, but never really followed up on it.

I'd like to know the results and how easy...or not it is to install.

I took a chance and just bought some cheaper all season tires. All of the summer tires are expensive and somewhat noisy.

I've had the Toyo proxies 4 plus all season on my car for about ~3000 miles. For a low ~125 bucks a piece, they are pretty impressive and I'd much rather have them on my car than the pirelli zero.

I think pirelli is one of the most over rated and over priced tires out there. Somewhere between average and garbage is where I put them.

These Pirelli tires everyone is complaining about, are they summer tires or all season?
My car can with them and I have not noticed any of the noise everyone is talking about. Mine are all-season.

The P-Zero is a summer tire. Frankly though, I haven't met a Pirelli tire I've liked. I had P6 on my A4 and they were terrible. Noisy and shaped like ovals. I had P-Zeros come with my 2013 A6 and had TireRack pre-ordered Bridgestone RE970AS mounted by the dealer before it the ink was dry on my new car sales invoice. Needless to say, I'm not a Pirelli fan.
