Default S8 Winter set up

I live in the mid west, I don't need all out winter tires but something for the occasional light snow and, more frequently, ice. I recently purchased a 2013 S8- and I love it. Really don't want to, and can't really afford to, garage it for the winter. Any thoughts on an affordable winter set up for wheels and tires?

In my opinion, ice is a big reason for dedicated snow tires. And as such I'd suggest picking up a set of wheels and putting snows on them. I'm assuming you have a place to store an extra set of wheels/tires.

A compromise is a set of all season tires. Continental DWS06 have ranked at the top of the heap for some time.

You don't state your location (other than midwest) so I couldn't look at craigslist to see what's available in your area. But I'd suggest looking there to see what wheels, and perhaps tires, are available in your area.

Or you could just buy these (assuming they are for a D4)

As always, the 10 spoke forged OE 20's from D4 A8 or A/S 7 are all over eBay. Probably 10 listings right now. Seen on other classified sites from time to time too, and sometimes locally.

The ideal score is one with A/S 8 correct tires, but most are wheels only or A/S 7 tire size--one step too small. But keep watching, and those will be there. I have seen several sets this year go by. Wheels sets can now be less than $1K, for OE and forged at that. These wheels seem to price down just for some perceived appearance reason and/or supply-demand, but as both forged and many spoked a very logical choice in a 20 for rougher use. And if the right tires that some have from time to time and they are useful to you, then effective price of wheels is yet lower. If no tires mounted, pick your choice. Dunlop performance winters in 265 size have been relatively cheap on TireRack for months. Or as mentioned, DWS06's if need is occasional.

Smallest you can go on S8 (or 4.0T or W12) is a 19, but then you have to be careful on whether wheel fits correctly w/ brakes. You can find 19 wheels around too specific to the A8 fitment, but not that common. There has been a set of 19's with winter tires sized for A8 on EBay for like a year in 275's, if you want a more aggressive full winter tire like a Blizzak.

Thanks for the advice. I'll look into both suggestions!

I'm a little skeptical of these rims. In the 2016 S8 these are 21 inch. Does Audi make these in 20? I love how they look. Doesn't solve my affordable tire/wheel dilemma
