Default Serpentine Belt Noise

I've noticed recently upon start-up I hear a mid-level squeal/screech which sounds like my serpentine belt is slipping. I quickly goes away but was wondering if this a common problem that can be ignored until my next service. I've heard this noise before when we used to have fan belts which could be corrected by spraying WD-40 on it. I have just over 21K on the car but it's also almost four years old. Thanks

When you change the serpentine belt. Change all the pulleys and the tensioner that the belt touches.

if a roller seizes it will cause the belt to break.

Should be inspected before too long if it persists. Serp belts by their nature have a lot of surface contact area to avoid slippage even with high and varying load. Consider it could be a fluid dripping on belt for example--so even if it is the belt the noise could actually be a symptom of something else.

I spoke with my indie as well as Audi who both confirmed the noise is probably coming from my secondary oil pump and not an issue. They both said since my S8 sits for several days (I telework full time) and the the noise quickly goes away this is common.

If it was the primary oil pump I would be greatly concerned and have it fixed immediately. The secondary pump drains after several days of non-use and upon start-up will make the noise I mentioned as oil is quickly replenished. Yes, it's something I'll monitor but with more frequent use (e.g. daily driving) the noise will disappear.
