Bad news: compression test shows 160,120,100,90,60,45. next questions: head gaskets or jy engine, which would yield better results? how likely are these heads warped or cracked? What year range of 2.8 can I get if jy engine is the best route? I can pull a passat 2.8 too, right? pull-a-part has engines for 149+core, 124+core block & heads. 30-day warrantee

Don't know what a jy engine is and if the compression is that low and it blew a freeze plug it may be the engine is toast.
The Audi 2.8 12v is unique to Audi and not shared with VW..I think..the VW 2.8 is a different engine.
Audi used the 2.8 12v in almost everything from the mid 90s till 1997 or 1998 in the Cabriolet and Avant.
