92 100s auto, what is this Tranny # 128kw-gkap-aut
I found this # in the trunk spare tire well, so just what is this #? is this a ZF tranny? I was expecting something like 4hp18 according to Zf?
I need to find someone who will work on my shifting problem but need to know what tranny is in it? other then 4 sp automatic (3 speed with overdrive)
any info?
Jon

If you want the trans ID info you won't find it in the trunk, you are going to have to crawl under the car, sorry.
There are two ID tags on your transmission, one on the left side and one on the right side. The tag on the right (passenger) side of the trans has more information. You most likeley have a 4HP-18 however there is a 6 digit number that starts with 1050 that you will need to order any parts.
Whats the problem with your transmission?

yea thats what i thought, but someone had told me to check this #, just had no idea what it meant? I do have the 4hp-18. I believe I have a bad solinoid car hits neutral between 2ond and 3rd gear shifts. I have been debating on getting Vag-com or taking it to a tranny shop, I have no local dealer here but do have a good tranny shop, but they don't have Vag-com, they test everthing manually (each soliniod and switch)

Re: the 3rd to 4th "c" band servo/piston is servicable thru the side of the tranny
not sure about the 2nd to 3rd? Are you sure you are not experiencing the shift flare between 3rd and 4th?
BTW you will not get a trouble code from the TCM if this is the problem.

Does your shop specialize in ZF transmissions? If not I would shy away. Their answer is probably going to be to rebuild the trans. What will they charge to check the trans? Compare that cost with the cost of a VAG-COM you can test all those same components with the VAG in a few minutes, and you will have the tool for future repair.
HenryK and I have the problem you describe from the 3rd to 4th shift. With his help I have fixed the problem on my car and he will be doing the same repair on his car soon. Double check which shift is giving you trouble, if it's 3rd to 4th then we can help.
