Absolutely right. It may wear the center, but its very safe. And in fact, the temps
..will probabyl remain lower.
Now, as for wear, on another car I have, with lots of negative camber, and which is an evil vehicle that takes control of my body and makes me throw it around turns, over-inflating (ok, only by 3psi) actually EVENS the wear int he rear because:
1. hard cornering wears the outside edge
2. negative camber wears the inside edge
3. over-inflation wears the middle
So its not always so bad, although I will guess that this did wear the middle, and cost more in tires than it saved in gas.

I noticed a significant difference w/out the A/C on.
It's gotten cool enough lately here in C. FL to quit running the A/C for the most part. During the summer I would only get 17 tops in town and now in winter I'm consistently getting 19-20, all in town. I'll have to check it on the hwy, too. It would appear that the A/C produces a significant draw on the motor, at least in this car.
