Hey you Dunlop A2 folks, Need some further feedback..
Just blew out one of my Pilot XGT H4's..should have stayed home! Anyway, you folks seemed really high on the new Dunlop Sport A2's all around. Tirerack also had some excellent reviews on them. Any of you think I would be going backwards in terms of overall handling by dumping the Michelins in favor of Dunlops? Do they balance up well for us higher speed drivers? Very attractive price difference.
Thanks for the help, Tom G

Excellent tire! I have a set of SP9000's which are superb, but not for winter.I bought Winter Sports for winter, naturally. Darn good tire, fairly quiet and smooth up to 90.
When the 9000s' wear out, I'm putting on the A-2s'
Had them on a Saab and they were superb.

Size wise 205/60 HR 15's same size & speed rating as the Pilots.
..biggest disappointment is I had only 22K miles on them. Can't really see much value in chewing up an "H" rated tire that fast. Especially at the premium price...Tom G

How would you rate the sidewall stiffness and handling in corners at 80mph?
...that's what put me into the XGT 4's in the first place. Funny though I got 60K miles out my V4's and 22K out the H4's. I will say in comparing the two the V4 is outstanding. My next Audi will go the route of seperate winter/summer tires as it seems that is the way a lot of owners are going. I live in the Minnesota snowbelt so compacted snow & ice can become a spooky driving proposition. If I'm going to slide around I'd prefer a controlled slide as opposed to including the variable of sloppy sidewalls. Never thought tire selection could become such a challenging proposition these days.
Thanks for the continued feedback folks.

My corners @ 80 are only on the highway ...
I don't really find myself wishing for better stiffness or handling at any speed, considering that I'm running 205/60/15's on stock wheels...
In the snow, they are honestly the best tires I've had and I don't have ANY problems with them at all. Have driven though 8" of snow with these plus various bad road conditions and haven't been able to get them to slip much at all.

I just ordered Dunlop 5000. If you want to wait for a week, I will write a review.
It was a tough choice between A2 and 5000. The 5000 is "ultra hight performance" and I am spoiled by Dunlop 8000 so I finally decided on these one. But there are a lot of good reviews for A2's.
I ordered 205/55/16

My 27K mile review of SP5000's:
In a nutshell, I was very disappointed. The tires wore very poorly. The ride seemed to get worse (harder) over time, and I had problems balancing the tires. I suspect one or more were always out of round. A poorly made product, IMHO (although I had the asymetrical tires, in 235/50-16 size; your size would be the symetrical tread pattern.)
I would suggest Michelin's. I just put Pilot Sport A/S's on the car to replace the crap Dunlops, and am so far very happy. I went to a taller/higher profile tire, a 225/55-16 size, so more sidewall may contribute to better comfort. With a 400 tread wear rating, I expect them to last much longer. Downside: Price ($189 ea, mounted/balanced at Costco.) But, you get what you pay for. That's why you have an Audi instead of a Camry, right?!

Yikes on the Dunlop product!!
groan....ordered the Sport A2's this morning to replace my Pilot XGT's. The good news is I have a return warranty so if I'm not happy with the Dunlops will then go back to Pilots. The A2 sure has great reviews on the Tirerack website. I'll post an eval once I have them on....TG
