High Milage -- Club / what to look out for?
Just wondering how many miles fellow 100cs Quattro (automatics) have on thier cars. Motor and tranny issues???
The car I just bought had the tranny serviced what does that normally translate to?

270k. The car's showing its age.
The previous owner wasn't too careful about taking care of it and the same goes for me. Replaced radiator, fuel pump, and alternator. CV joint was also replaced. Dead A/C and some electrical problems. Struts need replacing.
1992 100 automatic
Speaking of struts... I saw a guide for installing the cartridge but I can't seem to find it on the forum. (A pretty detailed walkthrough.)

Outer front anti- roll bar bushes - the ones that go through the ...
lower suspension arm.
Normal things are CV joint boots (outer), minor engine oil leaks, hydraulic tappet noise - sometimes just new oil fixes it, sometimes it is the return valve and sometimes the tappets themselves, Water pumps and cam belt (bent valves if it breaks).

Re: 150Km not real high mileage but,
outside the normal maintenance (95 A6 Quattro), I have had transmission issues. The first was not the fault of the auto transmission, since the fault started with a faulty rad (ie tranny cooler) it ended up contaminating the tranny fluid with anti freeze. Needless to say the tranny died as a result of the coolant damaging the clutch linings.
Although the tranny was rebuilt, the most anoying is the on going cold start rattle that comes from the tranny on cold days. The noise goes away as the car warms up. Some say it maybe related to the tranny oil pump in some way...still no clear answers.
The other issue is the transmisson shift between third and forth gear, it occassionaly seems to mis-shift ie engine rpms go high for a brief moment as it completes its shift into 4th. Again there appaears to be no answer to this to date.
Otherwise the car is a dream to drive outside the normal wear and tear items as others have commented on.

Re: Tranny service typically means change of filter and fluid
thanks - didn't know if the car had a filter are not (my 2002 eclipse GT has none...)
I just started to read a lot of auto tranny problems here and became worried :-(
