Default Is my beloved A6 on its death bed?

I slid into a curb Friday night (ice + snow + negative incline corner = bang). Destroyed the rim, and noticed that the alignment was way off. Not wanting to ruin my weekend I parked it, bummed a backup car, and went off to play in the snow (skiing).

I took a closer look this evening. Looks like I bent the drivers side control arm, tore the rear sub frame bushing, and shifted where the subframe mounts to the body / side member. I do not know if I bent the subframe, or not.

It is a 95 A6Q 5sp. 190K.
Can I get this fixed for less than $1k? Am I screwed?

I love the car, but it is starting to get long in the tooth. At some point I will have to move on. I was hoping that point would be a couple of years away.

Doooooommmmmm!

Thanks for any info. If it is junk, I will be selling it for parts / parting it out. Everything else is fine.

Default how fast do you guys slide into these curbs?

i've hit one or two in my day of coming around corners a bit too quick, but by the time i bump the curb, with my wheel turned parallel to the curb, i'll bump it at maybe 5mph... am i just lucky?

Default When I had poor all season tires on my fwd car I went over a few curbs.

The trick is to admit defeat, turn the wheels towards the curb, and face it head on! Don't even use the brakes just let the car go over the curb instead of bumping up against it sideways.

Default Well i'm sure speed, tire profile, and suspension strength play a huge role too.

but me thinks the car will be able to take a greater impact trying to roll over something rather than hitting it sideways.

Default i banged a vw up in this fashion.... alot easier to find parts at junkyards though.

probably cost me a few hundred to fix myself. where are you located? any chance you can get parts used and do the work yourself?

Default I was moving well under the ABS cutoff speed, around 10 mph +/-

I was driving down a hill, and took a right into a (steeply pitched) parking lot. It was snowing, and I did not see the patch of ice waiting for me. Instead of entering the lot, I slid around and down grade directly towards a concrete pier (parking lot light pole). No steering, no braking. All in slow motion. Then BANG! The car stopped about a foot from the pier. The entire impact was taken by the driver's front wheel / mounting points. A very sudden and disconcerting stop it was. On site inspection revealed a piece of the wheel had broke off, the rim was bent, but it was still holding air. Drove it back home as is. I performed a quick backyard alignment last night (tape measure / tie-rod-adjuster threaded thingy) and took it out for a ride. Not too bad.

It is now being flat-bedded to my favorite mechanic to see what needs replacing.

Thanks for the feedback. I may get lucky and stay under the $1k mark.

Default I am in Southern New Hampshire.

I'm not a super mechanic, but I may give it a try if the estimate is too high. I was going to take a stab at replacing the TB myself this spring. Replacing subframe bushings looks tricky.
