Air-con recharge 92 quattro wagon.
Hi,hope this is of some help. This is in reference to a 92 100CS Quattro Wagon.I live in the North East state of Vermont and I was not able to find an inexpensive shop to recharge the air-con.The least expensive quote was around $175+ Tax and this using the R134A freon. Now,the 92 model uses R12 unless retrofitted to use the R134A.The person at the shop informed me that he would still use R134A without any problems which seemed to contradict every other professional info I had recieved.Hence,I did not risk it.I had a trip planned out to Allentown,PA to visit with family and they knew somebody who deals only in Audi's and though he was very busy he gave me an address of a shop that would do it.
The person at the shop is very professional and told me that to have used the R134A freon in a system designed to use R12A freon would be detrimental to the whole system and would eventually mess up the compressor(big bucks!).He told me the best one to use as the R12A is not easily available and should it be is alot more expensive is the R416A freon which is the alternative and would work with the system as it gets to work with the oil in the system as well. There is so much he explained and it would take too much space to try and write it all but should you have any questions please e-mail me.
He took about half an hour and total charge, are you ready for this?,$106.30 and the climate control works very nicely and the journey back home was more comfortable.
I highly recommend this shop if you are within Allentown, the shops name is;Integrity Auto and they are off Tilgham (St or Rd) this is the old US-22 and they are at; 687 Blue Barn Rd,18104 Allentown.
He also showed me where it is charged from:this is done on a pipe on the passenger side under the hood, under the plastic cover.
Thanks.
