Two screws under the bottom cover of the dash, pull the cover towards you and left.
You'll access three screws hoding the dash; unscrew them. Pull the steering wheel down and back to allow the dash to come out. Protect steering wheel with a cloth, otherwise it might get scratched. You might be able to replace the bulbs without disconnecting the brackets.

bulb cost $4 from dealer. FAQ inside should have some info on the procedure.
Different wattage of bulb is coded with different color. I think you need bulbs with orange plastic base.

You can get the (8) background bulbs for ~$1.25 ea. I used Jahn 1.2W bulbs (p/n 1641)....
Removing the IC is fair easy, just take your time and pay attention to unplugging/disconnecting all of the wiring (if this is your first attempt). To remove the two large connectors (the red and green connectors), pry up the center U-shaped lock, and then unplug. When you re-install the wiring, check that you have them all in before reinserting the IC into its cavity. Then test all of the lights/gauges/indicators by starting the engine and checking the operation. Then re-install the 3 screws, and then the lower trim/screws. Since I have done this a few times, I am able to remove the IC in 5 - 10 minutes time.

Be careful.. do not turn on the ignition when the cluster is out...
Because the computer thinks that the air bag bulb is out and will store a error code and then you will se that the airbag light will take about 2-3 minutes to go off after starting the car. I made this mistake... you will then need a Vag Com to clear the codes
