So after walking to work this morning from the garage ....
that is putting in my axle (drivers side front, stick) he tells me that it is for an automatic and not a stick, so I call NAPA and the said it IS a stick axle .... how do I verify who is right?

Well if it doesn't fit your car, and it's for an A6, the only other option would be an automatic.
What Audi part number did you get/order/receive?

Just another reason to either: press on a new joint; or buy from raxles.com
most axel vendors get them wrong, or do poor quality work ( e.g.: "rebuild" joints, which means clean and re grease a joint that may be fundamentally still worn)

Part numbers are given here...
<a href="http://www.edsaudi12v.com/audi/parts/Audi_100_A6_S4_S6_1992-98_p122.pdf">C4 Front Drive Axles</a>. Have NAPA crossreference the correct part number.
