Hey everyone

Summer is here 95+ weather, an old problem are now more presistent. After driving in hot weather for a while I get a no starting problem.

The relays under the dash will click, I turn the key to start position but starter won't turn, and after a while of sitting (sometimes 5 minutes and now half an hour to an hour)

She will then start up as if nothing is wrong. My dad got under the car and tried to hotwire the car from the starter as we did in our 1990 200, he couldn't get the car to start from there but he burnt his hand on the starter, he said he never ever felt a starter that hot and that after an hour of sitting, the water temp guage was already halfway down from normal by then.

I think after I increase the wire thickness I should try to wrap an insulator around the starter to keep the heat away because I think the starter gets heatsoaked.

What type of material do you guys recommend for wrapping around the starter? It is very annoying to always have to worry if the car would start.

Corne, your starter needs new brushes. I had this problem before and the starter was smoking hot due to only two of the four brushes making contact with the commutator when the engine is hot. Try giving the starter a few good taps with a small hammer next time. If this resolves the problem then definitely have the starter serviced.

When it happened Sunday afternoon I did thought of using a hammer but stayed away from it because I would've broken it LOL.

No I checked for that, ignition has also been replaced about 9 months ago OEM
