Default What is this hose? as seen on Jerzey's new car...

I had to go out and check my 1997 A6 because I didn't recall seeing it before. Sure enough, my car doesn't have it.

Default Secondary Air Injection.

That's what the little vacuum ball is on the passenger side of the firewall. If you have the Bentely look it up. It's installed on the late '97 and '98's (avants) to aid in starting.

Default I don't think an aid instarting. I think it "cleans" up the cold start exhaust pollution

By providing oxygen (outside fresh air) directly to the system.

And I don't think the vacuum ball is for this system. I think that vacuum ball is just a relocation from where it is on the early cars(next to the p/s pump in the engine valley).

The air injection systems I've seen a have all blown up into the head though some sort of divertor valve.

But....I could be wrong, so talk to me!!

Default Wrong.

Sorry, if you got the Bentley look it up. It's in there.

I too thought the secondary air injection resevoir was a relocation so I purchased the bracket and moved mine from the engine to this location. Then I later found out that this one was a second resevoir for the air injection system.

Default Re: I was told it has two compressors?

one that is used at start up. I know after I start the car and it runs for about a minute, it gets a lot quiter when that air/pump/compressor, thing shuts off

See, that's what I thought. That is the vacuum storage ball for the Evap & EGR systems.
