under the back seat of my '92 100
Tube comes through the floor about a foot behind the battery. There's about 2 feet of tubing with a barbed insert connector that obviously needs to go somewhere.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: does the other end go to the bat?
It may...I found it next to the battery.
Where on the battery would it go? Is it part of a system to vent the hydrogen generated by the battery?

just repaired that area....yes..
it is a vent tube for the battery. Barb end plugs into small hole on side of battery top cap. Your batery might have been replaced with one with no vent. Other end goes through rubber grommet in floor and vents under car.

make sure your new battery does not
induce any gas if it does not have the vent hole. Here is my story:
3 years ago Bat got replaced in the dealer and I had a strange smell in the car 2 weeks ago. Looked at the battery and found the vent hose loose in place. fixed that and noticed the battery is not the right size and there is no way to tight it in place. it was shifting 1 inch to the sides with each tight turn. Got it to the dealer and they replaced it with a new battery free of charge and appoligized for their mistake.
These bats are inside the cabs. I prefer to stay with the original ones (from Audi). little bit more cost but gives me more confidence when I have kids in the back seat.
