Default Audi 4000 Starts, runs for 5-6 seconds, and shuts off

My 87 4000 will start up, run for 5-6 seconds then stop. I seemed to start after a very mild night. The car just started acting funny like this, when i got home, and tried starting the next day, it would only start for 5 seconds and die. Checked all the obvious stuff, like the relay, fuel pump.. etc. I am not sure how to check the vacuum though. Any possible ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have to get back home this weekend, and due to being new years, i will not be able to visit a mechanic till monday.
Thanks

The was just mentioned the other day on here. Check the "spare" fuse on the side of the fuse panel. It is by itself and controls the ecu. It may need to be replaced. What causes them to blow? Not sure other than drawing too many amps. Good luck.

Default "Spare Fuse" or CSV

There is a "spare" fuse in your fuse box. It's lableded spare but is really the fuse for the ECU. The pic shows the fuse where it is in some cars, on others it will be second from the right. Look into the slot for contacts, make sure there is a fuse in each "spare" slot that has contacts.

Also, check the wiring on the Cold Start Valve (CSV). The SCV looks like an extra fuel injector but it has wires attached to it...

Default If the CSV wasnt working the car wouldnt really start at all, would it?

The car would be harder to start if the CSV (or temp sender controlling it) was bad.
Somebody correct me if Im wrong.

Default could be the fuel pump relay

mine did the same and it turned out to be the FP relay. Jumper the large spades of the relay in slot 10 and see if it starts...

Default Re: "Spare Fuse" or CSV

Thanks for the pics, but, unfortunately, i checked everything you guys said. Looks like its electrical Gonna have to tow it now I guess. I hear the fuel pump fine when i hit the relay, checked the extra fuse, car starts, so i don't think its CSV. I am gonna check my fuel lines under car again. Just had those worked on last week. Maybe my pressure is down .. who knows.. hard to work on without a hoist in the northern ontario cold

Try changing your fuel filters.
