do i dare ask about the oil pressure light / warning on my CGT?
Ever since I bought it way back in 1991, the oil warning light and buzzer would come on. It would never be consistent, sometime it would pop on all day long, and then rarely ever. Does anyone have an explicative for this? (and this forum is way more helpful than the A4 one)

yea, i saw you mention that a few threads down and it
reminded me of my oil light coming on all the time... i usually would just get pissed and rev the engine to red line and that would keep it from happening for awhile... i guess it is the sender, where in the hell is it? and thanks to you i am taking apart all my switches in the car (because they dont work) and trying to get them fixed up - I am working on the mirror switch now!

Sender location
It is a pretty big sender almost 2" I'd bet. It's "on the right hand <drivers> side of the block inline with no 2 cylinder just below the coolant pipe that runs horizontaly along the block." (from Huw's site). Heads up, they are expensive buggers to buy new! The good news is that you can grab a used one from just about any older Audi or VW that has the 3 VDO gauges.

Yes I've had this problem in the past and had it beat for the last 6 years
My fix was to clean up the contacts.
That worked for a while but finally the fix that worked was re-soldering the heavy guage ground cable that goes to the battery. Turns out there was oxidation/corrosion in there that was increasing resistance and dropping the voltage so the darn thing would alarm independant of oil pressure.
If you have no valve noise, chances are your oil pressure is ok.

Re: do i dare ask about the oil pressure light / warning on my CGT?
Hey, guys. I went through all this stuff and all the remedies before, good advice but spread the word: It's the "Oldruck-Kontrollergerat" under the dash with the door chimer!
Daughter's car would still activate the buzzer/light even after I disconnected the sender at the cyl head... lead me to the electrical diagrams. See more recent post above!

Whoops... may have jumped the gun a bit here. I don't know whether you guys with the 5-bangers have this same arrangement. I'm referring to the 1.8...
Worth a check though, and my Haynes confirms it on the earlier coupes...
