Door card removal

Door card removal
I need to do maintainance on my door handle mechanism (it will not open from the outside, only from the inside). I would also like to lube the window tracks etc. before I break something, I thought that I should ask: How do I remove the door card? Are there any tricks that whould avoid breakage or speed the process? Is it just a straight forward- remove the screws, pry the clips off the door and lift up?

Pretty straight forward...
I think there's 2 screws in the handle. Then a little "hidden" screw behind the metal door latch that you pull to open the door which allows you to pop off that plastic piece. Clips on the bottom of the card. Unscrew the door lock pin. I'm missing something...but it's easy. Will take you less than 10 minutes to slide the card up and off.

a few more tips
assuming you are doing the front doors, when you remove the arm rest, do the screws first then turn the rest about 90 degrees and the top will pop off (it has press fitting with allignment slots. If you have a 4K with the power mirror buttons in the arm rest, best to pull off the connector first (pita). There is also one screw in the lower front and I think there is a screw under the trim plate by the vent window(again mine is an 84 with vent windows) - the rest are press clips which can be popped off with a flat blade (screw driver or putty knife).

A tip for the mirror switch.
The switch pops out of the armrest. Use a small screwdriver to pop it out of place and snake it towards you, then you can disconnect the connector. I found this out AFTER I had taken off many door panels, it makes it alot easier too.

Be careful of the chrome trim strip just above the armrest pivot
Sometimes the armrest seems to come out clear of the trim (on my '84) and other times I've buggered it up (on the '86 come to think of it.) I don't think they are different, but maybe someone else can suggest how to avoid it.

Anyone lubed the window tracks?
My passenger side is kinda catchy, squeaks when rolling up or down and doesnt slide smooth, has anyone lubricated the slots where the window sits on the front and back sides? What is the best stuff to use and best way to do it? I'm trying ot avoid gettting a greasy window...

This may help
I wrote a how-to on doing the window regulator/glass guide replacement that spends time talking about the door cards.

Read my window regulator page.

Ditto. Also remember this when reconecting.
There is also a screw behind the black triangle peice right across from your side mirrors. I never new it was there until I got new door cards and was like, what the hell is this screw hole here for? It helps hold the top of the door cards in flush with the door.
