Default Engine cleaning and engine hood lifters (pics)

Used just a bit more than a week - crazy i know, but i just feel in love all over again with my CGT - on engine cleaning and painting and here's the result. It's hard to do much more without removing the entire engine/tranny which i would like to try once, but i don't have the place or equipment to do it.

Probably also would end up putting a 7A in there if i ever get the old HY out of the car.

Not finished, but still looks nice IMO. I know painting the expansion coolant resovior is open to discussion, but i just thought "what the heck, it's not that expensive anyway".

Also made some hoodlifters out of trunklifters from a CGT(been looking alot on what the great Mr Huw have done, and modified a little). Because i did not want to make holes i my car i made some brackets that fit on the fender bolts and on the original hood hinges. Hood open, no hands, no holes, that's how i like it :-)

It won't "hover" like Huw's, so maybe ill have to redesign :-(

Anyway, car drives the same (great), but still makes me feel happy when i pop the hood and look below

Default Beautiful

I power-washed my engine the weekend before and got a lot of crap off, but this kind of detail is certainly something to aim for!

Default Looks great, I've got the "Huw Powell" setup

I actually bugged him into doing that mod. We designed the brackets and built three sets. One for each of our cars and one for another guy.

The red 4kq in his pics was my car pre turbo. Click the pic to see the page on Huw's site about the mod.

Default What did you do to clean the engine?

Did you have it steamed? Or did you do it by hand? I'm curious how do get an engine compartment that clean w/o taking 100 hours to cover up the electronic connectors and such. lemme know!
