Default fuel pump help..anyone???

last week i bought another '82 4000 1.7l for $50. i was going to use it for parts until i realized it was in better shape than my other one. here is the problem; the previous owner (for the past 15 years) told me that the fuel pump was shot. he said that he pulled it out and cleaned it and then it would work for a couple thousand miles and then crap out again. i can easily take the fuel pump out of my current driver but i am afraid that it isnt the fuel pump at all but something else that will f**k up my good one. maybe the valves? or gnarly gunk in my tank?? anyone have this problem before? any suggestions? all i know is that the car doesnt run right now and that the fuel pump is the reason. if you could help me out i would be greatful.

thanks

Will

Default Get a new one for it. After 23 years, it deserves one.

www.alloemaudiparts.com...

others may chime in here and suggust other vendors, and I've had good luck w/that company.

Just a thought, has anyone replaced both the fuel filters down there?

Default Possibly some stuff in the tank

If the car sat for some time, water could have condensed in the tank and caused rust to form and flake into the tank. That could definitely block something. You'd have to remove the tank, visually inspect it, then use a metal etcher/tank sealant in order to prevent rust for forming.

Good idea! Cheaper than a new fuel pump...
