What are the PROS / CONS to the non-turbo 20V?

Very reliable
On the 80/90 forum you won't find any issues with internals on it. You'll see the typical Audi issues though. Vacuum leaks, injector problems, timing belts(bent valves resulting from breakage), bad O2's.
With a lighter chassis it'll be decent. Not a huge boatload of power though.
Con's, not a lot of headroom for modifications as an NA. You can go with the 034 turbo kit but by that point you're looking at the price of a 20VT swap anyways.

There was a neat 7A 4kq
A guy on here owned it. Had the TorSen set up and everything, even the B3 instrument cluster. I really liked the car. It was basically a 90 20v in a 4kq body.
Thought there was some issue with the speedo cable, which is why you had to use the B3 cluster.

my cgt's just waiting for my the 7A to go in.. same procedure as the 4kq..
the gains for me with the lighter fwd car will be greater.. so you can't really compare in that department..but the 7A is a HUGE gain over the JT, and would do well in the 4kq... people who don't know how to drive a car with the 7A say they're slow, when in reality, they're quite fast at highway speeds, comparable to a stock WRX, actually. (20v 90q, that is)
however, you have to work the engine more to make it fast, constantly staying above 4500 rpm, but it rewards you.
i've never driven a 10vt, but i lub the 7A

2nd, the 7A has had some rods go through the blocks here and there though.
I've seen a few rod failures. Not sure whats causing them. I do know I've never seen one on an NG/NF though.
These 7A's seem to be kind of temperamental though. As much as I like my 7A in the 90q, I'd rather swap a 10vt in my 4kq over the 20v 7A. I also wouldn't do the 034 setup. I'd buy a AAN/3B exhaust manifold/turbo, whatever intake manifold that fits, use a compression reducing headgasket and AAN wiring harness and management.

50hp, 1000 more rpm, 10 more valves for a few hundred bucks and minimal work.. i'll take it..
seriously, my swap is taking forever because i have terrible ADD and do way more than i planned on, but if you dont tear the engine open and dont decide to paint/clean/re-gasket everything, its not much different from taking an engine out and putting the same one back in.. if you have the correct fw/clutch setup ready to go, it truly is just putting the engine in.. the wiring needs to be done, but as martin p says on his site.. same fuse box makes it easy
i havent attempted a turbo swap yet, but this is probably the same if not easier, and if you like N/A engines.. the 7A is one hell of a winner, especially for the older, lighter B chassis cars
