speedo runs by a cable, might be a 2 piece type with a juntion box
under the hood right in front of the master cylinder. If your cable is bad you can usually recore it.
The electric problems you mentioned were covered in your other post.
Just chill, these problems you're having are nothing new to old school Audi's( or any old make for that matter),they can be remedied rather simply with a little effort on your part.

You can lube the cables.
Take 'em free at the 2 piece junction box, and see if they rotate freely. Use a pair of needle-nose pliers to turn the inner cable. BE Gentle, these parts are 20 + years old, remember? Might be some rust in there, and you can spray some spray-lube in it to free it up.
If that doesn't work, you may need a new cable[s]. I can't stress enough: easy does it. When you take the cables free there, don't force it, just use firm pressure on those knurled fittings at the box Supercoupe mentioned.
The speedos are problematic on our cars. Lots of discussions about them... do a search on this and read-up.
Hang in there....

Re: It's an Audi... When you own one of these...
Be prepared to put up with some minor quirk and DON'T fix it. If you do, then something else will go wrong and will begin to drive you nuts!
Somehow the damn Germans found a way to put their stubborn personalities into the cars.
