Default Ok, where'd they hide the trans code?

I've got a deal in the works on a 5spd 'box from an 85 4ks(to swap onto my Fox), but I need to know what the trans code is first(I'm looking for a 2N). The guy looked on the bellhousing, and all over the transmission case, but couldn't find it. I thought they were stamped on the bellhousing. Am I wrong? Is this guy a putz? Will Batman and Robin escape the Joker this time? Only your hairdresser(and hopefully one of you guys) knows for sure.

Bently shows it located above and in front of the passenger side (US) axle flange, below what looks like the top horizontal rib.

Not the best description, but the picture is kind of sucky.
