overheating?
My son's 85' 4000 seems to be getting hotter than normal. we repalced the water pump. coolant is new and full. oil is new. the oil temp usually gets more than halfway up the gauge, and water temp gets a little bit above 3/4 of the way up the gauge... any idea's or suggetions?

Re: overheating?
What temp is your thermostat? i use a 180 degree one and it keeps the temp in the middle and only goes over that mark slightly when im at idle and its hot outside.
did you flush the system when you changed all the coolant n stuff? thats kind of good to do once a year.
check your timing and spark plug gaps also, hotter sparks and over timing causes the engine to heat up.
check the air filter also, im not sure if its true but i was told a clogged air filter strains the engine.
the oil temp is fine, if it gets in the red that when you have to worry. when the oils overly hot it wears the velocity of the oil down quicker.
if nothing works you can get a dual fan shroud that might fit it if you radiator is in the front of the car and not at a angle inside the compartment.

Re: overheating?
In Older 4 S's and 4 Q's the radiator tends to fill near the bottom with crud over the years, Thus the temp rise. Don't, I repeat, Don't change out the thermostat. I did on mine and it threw off the cold start valve. I simply pulled the radiator and ran it down to Central Radiator on Federal in Denver and they boiled it out. My '87 4Q is running normal again.
