strange squeaking from front of engine, please help
ok, I have a strange squeak from the front of myu engine, I am prety sure it is not a belt, but not 100%, my only othe thought is that it may be the water pump bearing going bad! Also, if I am wrong about where the sound is coming from, does anyone no of any other potential engine squaeks, squaels, or whistles?!
Thanks

same sound...some info...
i had the same sound and drove myself a bit crazy trying to find it. I replaced the PS pump, belts and other assorted bits. i also replaced the timing belt, water pump and idler pully. none of that helped. it has since gone away and i have the suspicion that it is the front engine mount-the one that sits against the chassis by the front grill.

Re: strange squeaking from front of engine, please help
Just went thru a similar problem with noises at the front of the engine of my 4 cylinder. I couldn't identify the exact location. I repalced the water pump which had a bad bearing but wasn't leaking and this took care of most of the noise, but I still had an albeit quieter noise that I could hear after getting rid ot he really offensive wp noise. I took the belts off of the ps pump and air conditioner and the noise went away. Seems I have a problem with something in the locking clutch of the air conditioner. PS checked out Ok!

Re: could be a couple of things.............
Check the belts first off. I would then check the pumps and pulleys also the alternator and AC if you have it. From what you said, IMO, its a pulley, either the idler or alternator or one of the pumps. Could also be a motor mount.

1 at a time, give the belts a squirt of spray lube. If it goes away replace the belts
If the noise doesn't go away, then remove the belts one at a time and restart the engine after each belt is removed. Also, spin the alternator by hand with the belt off, as well as check it for up and down play, the rear bearings love to fail.
If you still don't find it, move on to the water pump and timing belt.
If you still don't find it, move on to the water pump and timing belt.
