Default Thermostat replace--how bad is it?

Thinking of buying an '84 GT Coupe with bad thermostat. Mechanic said it's a bad thermostat, engine is overheating. Can't find a manual quick enough before I go over with my tools. Can anyone tell me is it deep under a lot of stuff, or is it essentially at the place where the radiator hose goes to the top of the engine? Also where's the radiator cap, I didn't see one? Thanks in advance, tripleD

Default He said thermo, not cap

The thermo is very accessible, it's on the driver's side of the block near the front. I think the housing has two bolts that hold it on.
You'll have to drain the system and refill it, and then bleed the air out of it (fill the little fitting on top of the rad after you burp it a few times).

Default Piece of cake....

There are two bolts that mount the cover over the thermostat. they are metric and somewhere between 10 and 13mm ( can't remember off hand)and once you take them out the thermostat is right under. just make sure you drain the coolant out first ( you can remove the lower hose off the radiator) and make sure to replace the o-ring gasket at the same time. it's just behind and under the power steering pump but easily accessable.
