1989 Audi 100 Fuel Pump Removal
I have a 1989 Audi 100, The fuel pump is going out and I need to change it. I'v opened up the access panel in the trunk, removed the lines and electric. I cannot pull it up. I am not sure how to unlock it from the housing.
Here is a pic.
I could sure use some help....

From memory of a later car, I think there is a locking ring, which rotates about 1/8th turn counterclockwise, to disengage it.
I've heard of some people getting them undone by hand. I never figure it out, So managed to repair a damaged fuel line in situ! I couldn't shift it.
There may be a special tool...
$$$?

I think the twist counter-clockwise began in later versions.
I think the '89 100 still uses the flexible triangle hose-clamped around the pump body for mounting in the tank.

The inserts at each corner of the triangle pop over a round fixture mounted to the bottom of the tank. Reach around the upper part of the pump and feel for the corners. Takes a bit of doing to pop them off the mounting fixture.

thats not the pump setup for a 1989 100
I have a 1987 5K & a 1990 100, both Quattro's, & a 1989 FWD parts car, they all have the same pump/sender setup & it is not the one at the link you listed, they all have the triangular rubber mounted type shown in Kneale's pic

OP's first pix from his tank, however, looks like the one in his link. Looks like a smaller pump. May be a temporary change if Audi was having a supply issue. ETKA doesn't show anything like that for any of the '89 100s.

maybe OP listed wrong year for his car?
if he ordered a FP for a 1989 100 I don't think he would receive the pump in his pic, does anyone else have a T44 with other than the rubber mount style?

Maybe previous owner installed different tank in his 100...?
Here is the link for a FP, and I will ask the techs how to remove this type of setup.

Also viewing the forums links listed, my thought is, how does he have so much room in the tank opening area. One pic looks like there are folding rear seats or something like that.
Good Luck
Paul
